Lookout

Situation / Challenge

The prevalence of cloud computing and connected devices has enabled enterprises to conduct business from anywhere in the world—from any device. While this shift has increased productivity and efficiency, it has also put organizations at risk for a new range of endpoint-based cyberattacks. Endpoint security firm Lookout turned to Sage to introduce the company into the public sector market, educate the public on the risk endpoint threats pose to individuals and enterprises of all sizes, and establish the company as the go-to provider of comprehensive cloud to device security solutions to protect against threats in the age of Zero Trust.

Approach

Sage saw a unique opportunity to position Lookout as a disruptive leader in Zero Trust security — and to position the company’s leadership as experts on a variety of related topics, including mobile phishing, malware, and surveillanceware.

The Sage team conducted a multi-pronged media relations campaign aimed at educating the market on mobile threats, establishing thought leadership, promoting Lookout research, and inserting Lookout into timely conversations. A key technique for the latter is newsjacking — a practice that has proved significantly valuable for Lookout and had a direct impact on the company’s ability to influence legislation, deposition competitors, and catch the eye of prospective customers.

Results

Throughout its partnership with Lookout, Sage expanded Lookout’s thought leadership platform by generating hundreds of pieces of unique public sector-focused feature coverage for Lookout in publications including The New York Times, The Hill, Politico, Nextgov, Axios, and The Washington Post. Topic coverage has included:

  • TikTok Privacy and Security Concerns and its Potential Ban in the U.S.

  • Presidential Election and Campaign Security

  • The Mobile Threat Research Landscape and New Threat Discoveries

Sage has also developed a robust content program to promote Lookout’s subject matter experts using contributed articles to relevant media publications and nominations for prominent awards. Sage drafted multiple award-winning nominations for Lookout leadership, products, and customers within the public sector. This recognition increased awareness and helped position Lookout as a trusted leader in endpoint and cloud security, attract new customers and partnerships, and strengthen existing relationships.
